Mindfulness at work
Mindfulness – just paying attention. This is crucial to doing any work well.
Practised regularly, mindfulness:
- Aids working with and managing stress
- Helps keeping concentration for longer periods
- Increases job effectiveness and satisfaction
It can have external (e.g. dance performance) or internal (body awareness) focus.
Classical definition: “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally”. – Jon Kabat-Zinn
In the last few years many companies have realised potential benefits of mindfulness courses for their employees. Several case studies have been gathered on the independent website Mindfulnet.org http://www.mindfulnet.org/. This site also lists a lot of useful information for both new to the subject and practitioners.
